Your Money or Your Time

We rarely experience an abundance of money and time simultaneously. Most often, it's one or the other. The usual cycle of life as an adult jump-starts without a lot of earning power, heavy expenses and plenty of time. As career and family responsibilities intensify, the reverse if true. If everything goes as planned, you can look forward to having both time and money in your retirement years. However you can become intentional about having plenty of both right now!

Earning capacity depends on several factors: intelligence, natural ability/talent, level of skill development, tenacity, career choice and degree of ambition. Financial abundance becomes the result of these factors combined with the discipline and wisdom to manage resources.

We are on a level playing field however, when it comes to time. We all get the same 24 hours, seven days a week. Rather than looking for ways to manage time more effectively, we must stop giving others permission to steal it. We do have the option of taking charge. We can decide what we are willing to put energy into, what we are going to think about, the degree of involvement in the problems of others and, of course, the choices of who we spend time with.  Multi-tasking is smart because it is productive, but it is also stressful and exhausting.

The coach approach to time management is to be creating spaces for ourselves to think, plan, pray and ruminate. Many people who begin to work with coaches have been caught in the syndrome where you "keep on keeping on", responding to life rather than initiating. They are often experiencing high stress and a sense of being overwhelmed, with concern that they can't maintain. The typical response to such a suggestion is that "I don't have time." Do you have time to eat? Do you have time to brush your teeth? Of course. You make time for things that are important. They are part of your daily routine.

When you begin to give yourself permission to take charge of those 24 hours, and allow time for what's really important, you will begin to see the kind of change that significantly impacts all the corners of your life!

KEY QUESTIONS:

- What do you need to stop doing in order to create mental space? Write them down!  What has held you in this pattern in the past?

- What works best for you to stimulate creative ideas? Do you need time alone or do you  process best with someone else? If it's the latter, create an alliance with somebody that
is on the same wave length and commit to enlarging your thinking.

- What impact will it have on your life when you take charge of your time? What will be different? How will that feel? How will others be affected?
